Huila is one of Colombia's most celebrated coffee departments, and Gabriel Castaño's lot from this region is exactly why. Nestled at 1,800 meters above sea level, where the Andes climate slows cherry development and concentrates sweetness, LA GRANADA is a washed process coffee that leads with clarity and precision. Gabriel is one of our favorite producers — his attention to detail at every stage of processing shows in the cup. Bright grapefruit opens things up, clean and citrus-forward, before giving way to a deep cacao richness and a long, settled finish of caramel. Filter-focused and medium roasted, this is a coffee built for slow mornings and intentional brewing. Simple. Expressive. Distinctly Colombian. Expect: Grapefruit · Cacao · Caramel Roast: Medium Process: Washed Region: Huila, Colombia Producer: Gabriel Castaño Altitude: 1,800 MASL Availability: Limited — this lot will not be restocked.

COFFEE FAQ

Specialty coffee is scored 80 points or higher on a 100-point scale by certified graders. In practice, it means coffee that’s carefully cultivated, harvested at peak ripeness, and processed with precision. For BIGFACE, specialty means clarity, complexity, and the kind of character you can only taste when every detail is dialed in.

We work with trusted farmers and export partners in origin countries like Colombia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Ethiopia. Every release is tied to a specific farm, estate, or microlot, so you always know where it was grown, who produced it, and how it was processed.

Those flavors are naturally present in coffee. Coffee shares hundreds of the same aromatic compounds found in fruits, flowers, and spices. When you see tasting notes like grapefruit, honey, or cacao, it’s describing what the coffee expresses naturally, nothing added, just unlocked through roast and brew.

BIGFACE coffees are marked with a Best By date, we recommend enjoying them before then for peak flavor. Store your coffee sealed in its BIGFACE bag or in an airtight container at room temperature, away from heat, light, and humidity. The coffee will remain safe to drink past the Best By date, but flavor and aromatics are at their best when enjoyed before that point.

Yes. Specialty pricing reflects the investment at origin. Hand-picking cherries, extended fermentations, and careful drying all require time and labor. Paying more means better quality in the cup and better wages for producers. It’s about excellence and fairness throughout the supply chain.
